Changes due to the current Health Situation

Fitting Appointments

Consultations are available by appointment only and need to be pre-booked in advance via email – info@brideandalter.com

Face masks are still compulsory for the safety of our clients and staff. Fitting appointments are in an enclosed space and can take up to two hours.

We still ask our clients to limit the number of family and friends they bring to their fitting appointment to a maximum of two. Please email in advance.

How long will my dress take?

We advise leaving about three months between your first fitting and your big day or the date you need to collect your dress. We also offer a faster alteration service if needed and depending on the time of year (our busiest months are April, May, June, and July), this service is chargeable with a 25% express fee.

How many fittings will I need?

We will always make sure you are completely happy with your dress. During your first fitting, we will schedule your collection appointment, which will allow enough time for a further fitting if needed. Bridal alterations often need 2 fittings to just make sure your dress will be perfect.

How do you work out costs?

We price our services – fitting £60 + VAT per hour, alteration and tailoring at £72 per hour. The amount we charge directly relates to how long it takes our seamstresses to complete your dress.

Do I pay fitting fees?

We suggest booking a one-hour fitting appointment for your bridal fitting charging £60+VAT per hour in addition to alteration and material costs. So in case your consultation only takes half an hour, we’ll only charge £30+VAT. Fitting appointments are an excellent opportunity to discuss the fit of your dress, and how you want to manage your wedding dress on the day, e.g. we can apply a bustle or a hand loop to make dancing fun in the evening.

What should I bring with me to the fitting?

Bring well-fitted undergarments and your wedding shoes. If you haven’t bought them yet, bring a pair of shoes with the same heel height to get your hemline right. If you have any queries regarding your undergarment, please let us know before your dress fitting.

How far in advance do I need to book?

During our busiest time of year (between May and July), weekends and Wednesday and Thursday evening appointments are very popular. We advise booking up to eight weeks in advance to secure your slot.

Your Bridal Party and alteration discounts

All members of the bridal family – groom, mother-of-bride or groom, father-of-bride or groom, and bridesmaids are entitled to a free fitting consultation and often generous discounts if they need their festive outfits perfectly fitted and altered for the wedding day. Please ask when you book your appointment.
